Laughter and Tears

It has been another month and time just flies. This past month Brianne decided to make our lives much more exciting by waking Keaten immediately after we get him asleep. She usually yells, or begins crying because we are asking her not do one thing or another and the typical 2 year old tantrum begins; thus waking Keaten up.  We have been trying to teach her that Keaten needs his sleep and he can't be woke up, but being a two year old, this is a bit too much to grasp at this stage.

Also during this past month Keaten had his 2 month checkup, and with that, he received shots. Well Brianne didn't much care for Keaten having to get shots, so she cried/wined for him. At the end, Keaten got a few bandages for the shots, and Brianne got a sticker (funny how that worked out).

However, Keaten wasn't the only one who got to see a doctor this past month, oh no! Brianne got her chance too.  I happened to be working from home one morning (after a dentist appointment) and Mommy, Brianne, and Keaten were going to go to a play date, so Mommy asked Brianne to go to her room to finish getting around. Brianne ran off to her room with Mommy and I following a few steps behind. As we are about to enter we hear a thud. We turn the corner to find Brianne limp on the floor, so like any other frantic father, I pick her up and get ready to lay her on her bed, as she starts to come to on my shoulder. Needless to say, a trip to the Children's Hospital was made to ensure we didn't need to worry about anything serious, and she was diagnosed with a mild concussion. The funniest part of the entire day was as we went back to a room in the ER, Brianne kept saying "Oh no, what I do?"

Now thankfully the entire month was not spent on discipline or at the ER, we had lots of fun too. We are usually at the zoo every weekend, and now we visit the splash parks around Columbus/Hilliard as well.

For those who do not know what a splash park is, it is a free to the public area where water usually shoots up from jets in the ground allowing you to take your children to cool off on a hot day. Some also have walls that produce waterfalls too. Brianne absolutely loves the splash park and we are thrilled to take her.

We also took her to the Conservatory which houses all sorts of Butterflies and an exotic indoor garden. Brianne loved it. She has been into butterflies over the past few weeks and usually runs around the house with a strainer pretending it is a butterfly net (seriously, when she is in that mode, it is HILARIOUS).

Mommy, deciding to be brave one day, wanted to go see a friend in Lima, because they were about to move to Louisiana. So they met them at Chuck E Cheese. Let's just say that Brianne could care less about the games that took tokens, she just wanted to climb on the rides and just sit on them (without them moving). So as far as spending any money, we didn't need to. Keaten and Brianne did just fine on the trip, so overall it was a successful adventure.

We have a bedtime routine that we do with Brianne every night. We do her monthly Bible verse, followed by a Bible story, then a book, and finally a prayer. Last night after we finished the Bible verse, Brianne then decides she is going to say it all on her own. To say that we were shocked would be an understatement, we had to spend a good amount of time to find our jaws that hit the floor and bounced under the sofa. It was just a great feeling to hear her say it on her own.

Unfortunately, Brianne has been having "some" difficulty in going to bed at nights. Needless to say, we try to put her in bed, leave the room, and hope she falls asleep. The times she doesn't, we try to get in there so she doesn't wake Keaten. So if it is one of those nights where she isn't going to go to sleep we will hang out in her room until she falls asleep.

However, the last few nights Brianne has decided that it is more fun to play around instead of falling asleep. She will start out by asking Daddy to lay down, so he does and closes his eyes in an effort to get his little girl to fall asleep too. Nice try Daddy! Brianne then tries to sneakly sit up, leans over Daddy and plants a kiss, then goes right back to laying on her pillow. Rinse and Repeat this about a dozen more times and you can see, she feels this is a game and is not attempting to go to sleep at all. All the while, Daddy is trying not to laugh at how cute the whole charade is.

We have a lot of things coming up in the next few months and plan to spend Independence Day with Kami's family (at least for lunch).  Work has me busily working on a major objective that they would like implemented by year end and I have had a client ask me to do several freelance jobs for them over the past few months (which has been a great side income; enough to get me considering starting my freelance business back up again).

It is no doubt that the Columbus/Hilliard area has been good to us. Kami has play dates weekly and is trying to join another Mom's group that does several outings throughout the year. She has already made several friends from the Mom's Bible study she participated in at the church we are attending in Grove City (literally only 10 minutes away from where we are currently living).

We can't wait to see what the next month brings and to be able to share that with each and everyone of you as well.

Love,
Matt, Kami, Brianne, and Keaten
