We've reached the age where our child knows what she wants, when she wants it (most of the time). It is quite a confusing time in the Wilkin household... She has her mind set to one thing, 3 minutes later (if you are lucky) it is on another thing... Someone help me! No matter what, she keeps our lives interesting and rarely is anything repeated week to week.
This past month Brianne woke up with a hankering for pancakes. Being the wonderful Dad that I am, I told her she'd have to wait till Mommy gets up to have pancakes. Well... she didn't want to wait, so she marched into our room and announced "Mama, rise and shine. I want pancakes, please!" I was just about on the floor laughing once I realized where she was and what she just did. Mommy on the other hand, wasn't as thrilled with her morning having to start earlier than usual. Now just to give you a bit of background, as I'm sure you are wondering, she got the "rise and shine" part from my usual wake up call for Mommy, where I state: "Rise and Shine, it's kid watchin' time!" (admit it, you wish you were stirred awake like that now too, don't ya!)
Also this past month Brianne is becoming computer literate. We have a couple of preschool games for the computer and she has thoroughly enjoyed playing them. She's actually getting to be pretty good at using the mouse, it won't be too much longer before she'll be writing programs with her Daddy (next take your child to work day ought to be a real hit!)
The one thing that popped up over this last month with any repetition was painting. Man on man, Brianne was painting up a storm, we should have just bought canvases and then take them to art galleries and see if they were worth anything. She was painting at 5 in the morning, 7 in the morning, 11, 2 in the afternoon, 4, and even as late as 7 in the evening! If you were asked to pick a few paintings, let us know, we have more!
Then there are the car rides.... oh boy are they much more fun! Brianne has taken car rides to a whole new level. We have heard the first of "Are we there yet?" this past month (hope that doesn't repeat very often), but what's more entertaining is her singing. She tries so hard to sing every song she knows off of the CD or radio, then if she doesn't know the song, she just makes up her own lyrics. We are at the point where Keaten wants to desperately be part of the festivities and starts to squeal along with her.
On the allergy front Mommy found a neat Allergy Free Zone sign to print and post in our household. When Brianne sees it, she immediately tells us "We don't touch peanuts" to which we quickly add, "or eat them!" We continue to hope and pray she outgrows this allergy before school begins for her, that is the one constant worry we have. On the plus side, we recently found a few new items that are 100% peanut/tree nut free that usually aren't. One is a chocolate covered ice cream cone (think Dairy Queens dipped cones, but found in a grocery store) and the other is iced sugar cookies. Needless to say, Brianne was super excited to receive such treats.
Thanks to the weather this weekend, this last month was filled with trips to splash pads, parks, the zoo, and on the hot days, World of Bounce (a large facility with a bunch of bounce houses). I think there are only a few more metro parks in Columbus before we've visited them all. Parks are going to become a bit more frequent in these coming months as the weather begins to cool down a bit and the leaves begin to change (that always seems to be the best time to go).
Last but definitely not least, Labor Day was a day of fun for this little girl. She got to see family and was just enthusiastic about her Aunts and Uncles being around. My favorite part was when she came back in from outside and announced "I want my uncles to come get dirty with me." It was priceless! (and boy, oh boy, was she dirty by the time we left! Oh well, things could have been worse :))
Well that's another month in a nutshell for Brianne, I can't wait to see what the next month brings.
Love,
Matt, Kami, Brianne and Keaten
