5 is the year of the comedian?!?

Did you know that when you turn 5, you become a comedian? Yeah, me either. However, this must be well known throughout the life cycle of children, as our daughter took to it effortlessly. One day Brianne was asked to get her shoes on and Mommy came in to check on her progress and noticed something amiss immediately. She casually asked Brianne to make sure her shoes are on the right feet to which Brianne crossed her legs and said "Now they are!"

Yep, and that is how the comedian attribute showed itself into our lives once our daughter turned 5. Of course, that is nothing compared to the creativity and ingenuity that Brianne, my wife and Auntie Amber have! During spirit week at school, the kids were encouraged to dress in a variety of ways throughout the week. Monday was "mis-match day", Tuesday was "team sports day", Wednesday was "crazy sock day", Thursday was "school colors day", and Friday was "hat day". Brianne and Mommy went to town on "mis-match day" and went home with an award for her outfit. To say Brianne was excited is an understatement, she was ecstatic. Then on "crazy sock day", Brianne with the help of Mommy and Auntie Amber went to town! I believe my words were "I don't know what is scarier, the ideas the two (Mommy and Auntie Amber) of you come up with or the fact that you made it fashionable." Unfortunately, the school only gave one award per student for the week, but Brianne did get an honorable mention, and that made her just as happy!

Oh and did I mention our sweet little girl turned 5?!? Yep, she did! She had a butterfly and flower themed birthday party that had a waffle bar with ham and sausage. Boy oh boy was this a hit. I think everyone loved the idea of waffles, ham and sausage and that was all Brianne's doing. She is one very creative girl who is getting smarter and smarter everyday.

This little girl is getting to be super smart. She has been learning sight words for a while now. I believe she is at 13 of them right now and the Pre-K teacher, Mrs. Julie, hopes to have her students learn close to 60 of them by the end of the school year! Not only does Brianne love her class and her teacher, she loves doing additional workbooks we have at home, her homework, and not to mention science experiments. Some of the science experiments done at home recently involved: Creating colored ice balls using balloons and food coloring Creating ice sun shine catchers using cake pans and food coloring Rubber Egg Water Density

Let's not forget that Brianne learned to ride her bike within the past two months too! I'd say she and her brother request to go to the basement a few times a week to ride their bikes. Although it may be winter, they both love riding their bikes, especially after learning how to use the pedals properly.

So not only did my little girl learn to properly ride her bike, but she has officially lost two teeth now! Her first while brushing her teeth while getting ready for bed on January 17th and the second when she was on a play date at the mall on February 14th. How I managed to find her tooth while 20 kids were running about, I still have no idea, but I'm glad I was able to. I still can't fathom that she is old enough to be losing her baby teeth. I mean seriously! It doesn't seem like it was more than a few months ago, she was starting Pre-K, then time before that just seems to have flown. How did this 5 year old get to be so big, so smart, when I can still easily remember the nights I held her in my lap while she slept?

If you didn't catch it, yes, Brianne lost her second tooth of Valentine's day. Just like the years before Daddy made sure he brought home flowers to his little girl. On Valentine's day, Mommy got to sleep in, but once she awoke and made her way downstairs, Brianne and Keaten gave her their homemade Valentine's Day cards that they glued hearts on, drew pictures on, and signed their names to.

Of course, that has nothing on how Brianne and her classmates feel for each other. This past week, the snow days really got each of them down since they couldn't see their friends at school. The moment was just "too cute" and really goes to show how technology, when used right, can really help bridge the gap between relationships. I feel this may be a lessen for all of us to re-learn, after all, this has to be one of the more appropriate uses of Facebook I've seen in a long, long time.

Last but definitely not least, Mommy made Brianne her very own "pillow bed". This pillow bed has been a major hit. Brianne loves to lay out it in the middle of the living room while she watches a movie, cartoons, quiet time, take a nap, pretty much whenever she can use it, she does! From concept to creation, these things are awesome. They are easy to fold away when not in use, easy to wash, and they are very comfortable (not to mention our kids love them!). Good job Mommy!

I can't believe all of that happened in 2 short months, but my goodness, time really does fly.

Love,
Matt, Kami, Brianne and Keaten
